I have highlights, and I want to color my hair....?

I had highlights put in about a month or so ago, and now I want to color my hair. (I have blond hair, and I would like to go to a light brown color) I heard that if you color your hair with highlights, it can turn your hair green! I actually have trouble believing this but I just wanted to make sure.


And, I was wondering if you would recommend having it done in a salon, or doing it at home with a kit. I%26#039;ve never actually colored my hair before so I really don%26#039;t want to mess it up!

No. The only reason it will turn green is from chlorine, copper, or any other chemical water supply. So you should be ok.
Reply:Chances are your hair won%26#039;t turn green, however its not completely unheard of... just depends on the chemical reaction your hair has....





If it were me, especially since you want to go darker, and you have never colored your hair before I would go to the salon, they can help you choose the right shade, etc... depending on the texture of your hair and the base color of your hair, you could pull the red up, what that means is that instead of having a brown, you will have a reddish brown, if your hair is prone to turning a redder shade, you can use an ash brown color, the ash uses a contrast that will counteract the brown....





Until you get used to how your hair is going to color, I would go to a salon just to be on the safe side, trust me it is much cheaper going the first time, than going after you%26#039;ve screwed something up and have to have a corrective color done, which could become very very costly!
Reply:you should be able to color your hair at home. if you don%26#039;t feel comfortable doing it yourself, have your best friend come over and do it for you. the most important thing is just to make sure you get all your hair.....the first time i did my hair by myself, i ended up with a patch of hair on the back of my head that i had missed =/ i use feria. it%26#039;s got this shine serum that you mix in with the dye, and it makes your hair color super shiny and beautiful!

Reply:Yes your hair can turn green or purple or any color because its kinda like mixing playdoh when you mix colors. Not knowing what your hair looks like its hard to say do it yourself.... but i recommend a salon to get the color you want then if you want to do it yourself after that match up the color from where ever and do it every month or month and a half... depending on how fast your hair grows. Its a huge mess and i can bet you will like it best if you get it done by someone and then do it on your own later...
